figure drawing

contour drawing

I draw these one-line-only drawings with very fast graphite pencils.  My eye moves along the various contours of the models, still life objects in the studio,  and my pencil records the line journey. I usually begin somewhere other than  the model, drawing one of the many fascinating masks or sculptures  maybe even the model's water bottle, so as to not make the model any more important in the composition than anything else. I find that I see much more when drawing this way because I do not get stuck anywhere and, in 8 or 10 minutes, can get a complete and satisfying composition.
